Honor 6X Review: Gaming Performance Redefined
  • PublishedJune 30, 2018

Honor released Honor 6X with great expectations and hype in 2017. The tech community widely accepted the smartphone because of the addition of dual cameras on the rear alongside a stunning front camera. Moreover, the Honor 6X also includes a decent battery with the ability to snap dual SIM cards. In addition to the smartphone, the product box also includes USB cable, AC adapter, user manual and SIM ejection needle.

The Honor 6X is designed in a sleek metal design with a deep reduction in the thickness. The rear side looks polished and soft unlike other smartphones with plasticky feel. Even after 8 months of purchase, the Honor 6X looks beautiful and stands out from the crowd. The rear cameras are housed in the middle of the smartphone and fingerprint sensor is placed below the sensors. The LED Flash is placed on the right side of the sensor. The company also provided the required regulatory information along with the SAR value.

Talking about the display, the Honor 6X is infused with an advanced display available on the market. The handset is equipped with a 5.5-inch FHD LTPS IPS display with 403PPi pixel density. The display looked dull initially after the purchase but after the recent EMUI 5.0.2 update, the handset has got a fresh lease of life. We can now clearly view the icons followed by a dark background with a wide range of colors.

Camera

The main advantage of the Honor 6X is the addition of dual cameras comprising of 12MP and 2MP sensors on the rear. We managed to click sharp, vibrant and stunning images. The only point to note is that there should be sufficient lighting. The images shot under bright sunlight have come out really well with attention to detail.

We would appreciate if the company comes out with an update with support for Bokeh mode. The phone also captures excellent selfies via the integrated 8MP sensor. The best part about the Honor 6X is its ability to capture excellent images. However, we noticed slight heat while working with the camera.

Gaming

The Honor 6X is embedded with an octa-core Kirin 655 processor and is capable of running all the games smoothly. The games can be downloaded quickly from the Play Store via Wi-Fi and there are no connection drops. However, we noticed higher download speed when it comes to the 4G connectivity. You can play games immediately after the installation by dragging the notification bar from the top side of the screen. If you try to install multiple games, the Honor 6X will keep the installation on queue depending upon the selection.

The gaming experience was pretty smooth without any abnormal heat. We managed to play simple games such as Roulette without any lags and the phone handled every movement like a charm. The Roulette game worked flawlessly because of the improved specifications of the phone such as 4GB RAM. Placing bets and the spinning of the roulette wheel feels very smooth when playing this game on this phone. Moreover, the addition of a Kirin processor is an added advantage.

We also tested Asphalt Xtreme and the racing was an icing on a cake. The racing car moved fast without any major lags or abnormal heat. As you can see, it is possible to play any of this games without any difficulty because of the robust and advanced hardware integrated with the smartphone. The heat dissipation is perfect in Honor 6X and the sound from the side mounted speaker grills were loud. We were thrilled to see the car being moved and dragged across all places very quickly. We also installed games such as Temple Run, Sunway Surfers, Asphalt Moto and managed to play smoothly without any lags.

It’s common that if you play games for a long time, smartphones tend to heat. The sound output from the internal speaker was on a higher side. It was a pleasant experience to play with Honor 6X because of the excellent display quality and sound delivery from the bottom side panel.

Conclusion

The Honor 6X is an incredible smartphone with plenty of processing power, storage, and improved display. If you purchased the smartphone, you should upgrade to the latest EMUI to get the best out of the device. The handset ships with a powerful 3340mAh battery, which is sufficient to work for more than five days upon normal usage. I would suggest the manufacturer to bundle a transparent case along with the product package. Even though the rear side is designed using the metal body, the phone won’t fall from your hands. Honor has clearly tapped the competitive smartphone market by introducing a smart budget-friendly phone.
